Mad To Live Fit Vid: Quick and Easy Hotel Room Blast

It can be tricky to maintain your fitness if you're on the road, whether you're travelling for business, backpacking on the road, or enjoying a shorter holiday away. Fear not dear readers, for I've whipped together this fast and effective workout you can blast out from your own hotel or hostel room - not every spot you're staying, especially if you're travelling on a budget without access to your normal swish gym at home, has gym facilities. All you need is your own fine self, a bed, a bag, a pair of socks, and a wall! 

MAD TO LIVE FIT VID HOTEL ROOM BLAST

Follow the outlined circuit below and use the video that follows for a demo.  This is an awesome workout you can do with zero gym equipment, maximising the props of your own hotel or hostel bedroom, including your backpack! Firing up different muscle groups and incorporating strength training with balance, the below session comprises 6 different exercises while you will do ten reps of each for 3 rounds, making this a fast & fun session you can thrash out to start the day.

DYNAMIC WARM: 5 MINUTES of a mixture of squats, lunges, jacks, mountain climbers, inch worms and toe taps.

  • SQUAT WITH BACKPACK
  • BED TRICEP DIPS
  • WALL WALKS
  • INCLINE PRESS UPS
  • BED LEG RAISE
  • SOCK SLIDING PIKE

WARM DOWN: Be sure to stretch at the end of your workout! Hold each stretch for 30 seconds, breathing deeply into the stretch.

There's nothing like hustlin'/crowbarring a group of friends together for a workout. Training solo can sometimes get a little dry, and pulling together a homie or 2 for a group training session isn't just fun as heck, but can push you harder, as your amigos spur you on that extra bit.

Here's a super fun and challenging workout I pulled together this week for a session with my two baes and surfing buddies in Costa Rica, Adilia and Pao.

 MAD TO LIVE FIT VID GROUP TRAINING

Follow the outlined circuit below and use the video.  The beauty of this workout is that you can do it in your gym or your living room/garden.  The essence of the session is maximising your time through HIIT and targeting multiple muscle groups and systems whilst working the anaerobic energy system.   The below session comprises 8 different exercises.  Each homie starts at a different station, carrying out each move for a minute before moving onto the next without a rest.  After all the exercises are complete y'all can take a minute rest before repeating 2 more times! POW! Cruise to the video at the end for the full wrap up/ sweat storm! Oh yeah, and Pipeline the sausage mutt makes another appearance ;)

Mad To Live Fit Vid: First Workout From the Costa Rican Jungle

So now the final remnants of the Christmas overload of mince pies, boozin', lashings of turkey and enough choccy to sink a ship should have petered out, it's pretty normal to feel like you've over indulged and your jeans are a tad (ahem) bit toit!  Dudes, no worries, over the next few months I'll be bringing you a full series of video workouts from a remote and wild locations that you can follow wherever you're at in the world.  Focussing on boosting strength, stripping fat and getting your energy and stoke levels high, I'll be releasing them on Mad To Live regularly, so stay tuned!

MAD TO LIVE FIT VID WORKOUT 1 FROM THE COSTA RICAN JUNGLE

Follow the outlined circuit below and use the video.  This is an awesome HIIT circuit for building strength and melting some fat, a lot of the moves are some of my favorites I do for staying fit for surfing but they are suitable for overall fitness.  Do each exercise for 1 minute before immediately going onto the next.  Once you finish all 9 take a 30 second or 1 minute rest (depending on fitness level), before repeating twice.

DYNAMIC WARM: 5 MINUTES of a mixture of squats, lunges, jacks, mountain climbers, inch worms and toe taps.

  • HANGING KNEE RAISES
  • SIDE KNEE RAISES
  • KETTLE BELL BURPEE
  • HIGH KNEES
  • 5 DIAMOND PRESS UPS-LEFT HAND STAGGERED FORWARD 5 PRESS UPS/RIGHT HAND STAGGERED FORWARD 5 PRESS UPS-5 WIDE
  • SINGLE LEG BURPEE: 30 SECONDS LEFT LEG/30 SECONDS RIGHT
  • KETTLEBELL HALO AROUND THE HEAD
  • MILITARY PRESS + PRESS UP +SIDE PLANK
  • SEESAW PLANK

WARM DOWN: Follow each stretch from the video and hold for 30 seconds.  Includes a good shoulder opener for surfers.

GIRLS GONE RAD FEATURE ON SHRED READY: SNOW FITNESS

My buddies over at Cooler Magazine have shared the news on my Shred Ready: Winter fitness classes I am running.  Thanks guys!  Click the picture above to read the full story.

Shred Ready: Winter Fitness is a bespoke workout suitable for skiers and snowboarders (I don't discriminate ;)) tailored specifically to get your body in optimum condition for winter shred.  We will be focusing on the following elements that are crucial to snow fitness:

Winter is fast creeping over the horizon and if the farmer's are right, we're all set for a pow-heavy winter courtesy of the snow gods. Which if you're like me means you're already getting a mega froth on at the prospect of going riding soon!  Owing to an injury this year (ruptured ATFL ligament in my ankle) I couldn't go snowboarding last season so have been working extra hard on specific workouts and training.  I am now bringing this bespoke winter shred mega-rad and fun workout to you guys!

I've tailored an extremely specific workout, geared at getting your body in optimum condition for winter shred, whether it's snowboarding or skiing. Focusing on boosting the key components critical to these sports, we will be looking at the following during the session:
